Alex DeBrincat Finalizes 7-Year Extension with Red Wings

Detroit Red Wings right wing Alex DeBrincat is on the verge of signing a new seven-year contract extension, worth $13 million per year. DeBrincat, 28, who topped Detroit’s scoring charts, could have secured an eight-year deal before the new rules under the latest collective bargaining agreement limited the term to seven years.

The negotiations reflect a significant achievement for Detroit’s interim general manager, Shawn Horcoff, who has been busy managing team affairs including trade requests and unsigned players. Horcoff’s actions come as he faces the challenge of resolving issues with former captain Dylan Larkin and defenseman Simon Edvinsson. The latter remains a restricted free agent and is not currently participating with the team.

On the ice, DeBrincat has been a standout despite the team’s struggles. He scored two goals and added an assist during Detroit’s recent 5-4 defeat to the New Jersey Devils, leading him to a team-high eight points this season. With this new deal, fans hope DeBrincat’s performance will help stabilize the team’s challenging situation.
